We are very excited to announce the winners of the St-Ambroise Music Program! We received more applications than we expected, so we cannot stress enough that there were many, many deserving artists. Narrowing it down to just 6 artists was incredibly difficult!

For all of the artists who unfortunately did not receive a bursary through the St-Ambroise Music Program, you should know that St-Ambroise will continue to support independent musicians by giving out bursaries to artists through the Centre St-Ambroise, as well as offering opportunities for artists to raise money through performances at the Centre. To find out more, please visit our website: http://www.mcauslan.com/en/centre/

And without further delay, here are the winners of the St-Ambroise Music Program:

Grand Prize Winner: The United Steelworkers of Montreal ($5000) http://www.myspace.com/unitedsteelworkersofmontreal

They have wowed audiences from coast to coast with the infectious draw of their unique brand of blue-collar alt-country.  A potent mix of blues, jazz, country and swing, their live performances are filled out with dry wit, tall tales and some outright lies. Dancing is optional but hard to avoid.

The United Steelworkers of Montreal were voted Montreal's #1 Folk/Roots Band and #2 Best Live Act, and have been recorded live by CBC Radio 2 and CBC Radio 3. The band has been receiving critical acclaim, playing SXSW, NXNE, CMW, Pop Montreal, Toronto International Film Festival, Festival de musique émergente , Quebec City's 400th anniversary, Ottawa Bluesfest . Berlin's Popkomm , Nancy France Jazz Festival and received nominations for the Quebec Independent Music Awards and the MIMIs.

And now, they are the Grand Prize Winners of the St-Ambroise Music Program.
Congratulations Steel Workers!

Runner-Up Winners:

Camaromance ($1000 )
www.myspace.com/thecamaromance

Ever since she was 16 years old, Martine Groulx aka Camaromance immersed herself in music. Her third album, The Parade, to be released on March 2nd on Lazy at Work, shows a new musical direction, more grounded in Americana, with a hint of shoegaze and less in the folk/pop universe that she originally came from. The Parade is an affirmation for Martine Groulx.

Congratulations Martine!

The Franco Proietti Morph-tet ($1000 )
www.myspace.com/francoproietti

The Franco Proietti Morph-tet , as the name implies, is a band influenced by flux and change.  The roster may shift from as few as 5 to as many as 13 musicians on stage and the set list runs the gamut from jazz, hip hop, funk and soul to moody, atmospheric and meditative pieces.  Whatever the plan for the show, the Morph-tet always brings playful experimentation center stage.

C
ongratulations Franco & the Morph-tet !

Millimetrik ($1000 )
www.myspace.com/millimetrik

Millimetrik, lo-fi ambient ambassador Pascal Asselin, has been crafting honest, vivid musical landscapes taking sounds from hip-hop, shoegaze and classic to a new more bass oriented sound. His constantly evolving sound with live drums has a way of expressing his moods in exceptionally beautiful ways. At times melancholic, Millimetrik's sounds will deeply bring you into an authentic journey.

Congratulations Pascal!

Keith Kouna ($1000 )
http://www.myspace.com/keithkouna

Founder, singer and lyricist of now defunct band « Les Goules » (3 albums, 1 DVD nominated for DVD of the Year at GAMIQ, a « Prix Miroir » at the Festival d'été de Québec in 2006, and various shows throughout Quebec for six years, etc.)

Keith launched his first solo album "Les Années Monsieur" last November to glowing reviews, had stand-out performances at the Francofolies de Montréal and Festival d'Été de Québec, as well as shows throughout the province.
